MILL STREET LOUNGE

Completed within 5 weeks over the summer of 2016, Urbane Design was asked to undertake the design and project management of this ground floor reception area to a 450 bed student accommodation building in Leeds City Centre.

Despite previous improvement attempts, the reception lobby remained underused as a space, remaining predominantly a rather dark entrance/exit route.

Our re-model included reducing the oversized reception desk area but including a guest 'bar' where residents and guests can plug in their laptops, take a drink from the new coffee station and informally exhange information with reception staff.

Various lounge sitting areas were also introduced, each with a slightly differing mood from quiet library style study areas to more convivial clusters of sofas and a communal work bench.

The area was significantly brightened up by lifting the low level plasterboard ceilings where possible and providing a new lighting scheme.

Furnishings are a mix of bespoke pieces and specially selected items from local suppliers.
